How Pampering Helped Me Become a Better Mother

As a mother, it’s easy to forget about yourself and give 110% percent to your children. I know how it feels because being a mother of two growing children, I have to stay focused on nurturing them so they become well-disciplined and kind. These things are never easy. I may not be working, but I’m a full-time homemaker and maintaining the house is also a big responsibility.

But at the same time, I also have a responsibility to myself. I have to keep my body strong and healthy to function well as a mother. There was a time that I failed to do this.

When my two children were toddlers – one was four years old and one was only a year old – I was so caught up in taking care of them that I didn’t take care of myself anymore. I would wake up to my one-year-old son crying and make sure that his diapers are empty. If it’s not, I wash him and change his diapers. When the morning comes, I wake up at around 5 am to prepare everyone’s breakfast including my husband’s lunch. Can you imagine how hectic it was for me? And it was just the first few hours of the morning!

Needless to say, I became cranky without knowing why. I guess it was a frustration or it was exhaustion and stress. Little did I know that it was also because I didn’t feel good about myself and the way I looked.

Turning to Mani-Pedis

I told my friend about this and she was the one who brought my appearance up to talks. She told me that my frustration could be caused by how I saw myself. I felt old, tired, and ugly all the time and I projected this to my family.

That was when I turned to pampering. I started out with mani-pedis. I went to this local Nails salon called Beauté 2001 (now called Beaute – The Facial Destination) which is just a few minutes away from my house. Since it was my first time and it had been ages since I got my last manicure and pedicure, I tried their New York Manicure and their Medi Pedi.

The New York Manicure was something new to me because usually when you get manicures, the nail polish chips off with the smallest interaction with things. With this treatment, I didn’t have to worry about that because it was strong enough to last for two weeks. After applying the color I liked, I instantly felt better. My nails looked well-trimmed and cared for. I didn’t know that having nice nails can make you feel more confident.

Next, I tried their Medi Pedi. For this one, I was amazed at how smooth and soft my feet could be. Their foot treatment removed the dirt and the callouses I had on my feet making me feel so much lighter. Now I can feel confident wearing slippers or strappy heels.

After a while, I became a constant customer in the nail salon. Even on days that my schedule is full, I made sure that I went for an express mani-pedi just to make myself feel more relaxed.

Why You Should Pamper Yourself

After half a year of going to the nail salon, I can honestly say that pampering yourself does a lot of good. Some people have a notion that pampering yourself makes you vain, but there’s nothing wrong with that especially if you’re doing it for good reasons.

I have been more confident as a mom and because I also spend time with myself, my overall relationship with my family improved. If you’re already feeling the stress I felt before, you don’t have to wait to feel ugly to hop on a beauty date with yourself. It doesn’t even have to be a mani-pedi. If you feel that a haircut is something you need, then I encourage you to do so. At the end of the day, the way you see and feel about yourself makes a huge impact on your well-being.
